Since November 2017 I became an apprentice in the workshop of recorder maker Adriana Breukink. Her instruments are internationally reknowned and with them she innovates the recorder landscape.
For me this is the first time to be part of such an artisan workshop. The atmosphere of the space has its very own character that is made by the choice of materials, tools, work methods and the specific smells, sounds, colors and shapes that come with it. Working inside this workshop is a complete experience.
It borderlines the unique environments installations in art attempt to achieve: each sense is stimulated and you feel as though outside of the world for a moment.
The series Exquisite Classics consists out of objects crafted from left over recorder parts. By putting the focus on the material and the composition of it it gives a peek into the characteristics of the workshop environment. It highlights the work methods and experiences that underlay the becoming of the recorders.
